Barcelona’s right-back issue
For a while now, FC Barcelona have had something of a right-back problem.
Dani Alves left the Camp Nou in the summer to join Juventus, and the Catalans have failed to find a suitable long-term replacement for the Brazilian star.
This should have been the year that Aleix Vidal made the full-back spot his own at Barca, however it’s becoming crystal clear that Vidal will never make the grade at the Camp Nou.
Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin
In the past few weeks, Barca have been linked to Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin.
One of the best right-backs in the Premier League, Bellerin started his football career at Barca before Arsene Wenger signed him for the Gunners.
However, Spanish paper Sport on Wednesday now believe that Bellerin is no longer the main target for the Catalans. Instead, the transfer now being floated is a Barca-Valencia swap deal that would see Aleix Vidal head to the Mestalla while Joao Cancelo would move to the Camp Nou.
Cancelo is a 22-year-old Portuguese right-back.
For the record, Cancelo’s agent is Jorge Mendes.
