Diego Costa v Stoke

Everton v Liverpool: Diego Costa’s options expand

Philippe Coutinho & Diego Costa

Andy Townsend, Ian Wright and Rory Smith were all guests on BBC 5 Live radio on Monday night.

The pundits delved into the ongoing rumours linking Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho with Barcelona.

The overriding understanding heading into the final weeks of the summer window is that Coutinho wants to leave Liverpool.

Can the Reds stop the deal from happening? That’s now in huge doubt after the Brazilian handed in a transfer request.

According to the talking-heads, Liverpool should consider selling their playmaker in order to sign Chelsea’s Diego Costa instead.

For the record, Chelsea and Liverpool have already done a deal for a striker this summer as Dom Solanke changed clubs.

Liverpool v Everton

On Wednesday, Everton finally completed the purchase of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea for 45 million pounds.

Sigurdsson has been a transfer target for Ronald Koeman for several transfer windows and was determined to sign him during the current window.

Everton have been by far one of the biggest spenders in Europe this summer.

Signings include Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Michael Keane, Henry Onyekuru, Cuco Martina, Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney.

But, do Everton have enough in attack to make this season a success?

According to Koeman, Everton could still do with signing one more striker. The Dutch manager said in his presser on Wednesday:

We still need to sign a striker. Everybody knows that we lost Romelu Lukaku. We brought in Wayne Rooney, Sandro Ramírez and now Gylfi, and maybe they can share the goals around more than happened last season, but we still need another one to play the No9.

Could that be Chelsea’s Diego Costa?

Koeman was asked if Everton could move for Chelsea’s Diego Costa.

The Toffees boss laughed off the Costa suggestion, however the Express try to convince readers that deal could actually happen. The tabloid reports:

Ronald Koeman has refused to rule out a temporary deal for Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

Everton boss Koeman has left the door open for a possible deal for Costa after admitting that he would consider a temporary deal despite laughing off Joey Barton’s loan claim.
