This transfer report from Bild on Wednesday is huge testament to Eric Dier, who only started playing in midfield permanently at the beginning of this season.

Eyebrows were raised when Mauricio Pochettino pushed Dier from defence into a defensive midfield role during pre-season but the former Sporting Lisbon youngster has excelled in front of the Spurs defence.

On Wednesday, Bild claim that Bayern Munich have a “crush” on Dier and and the German giants have targeted the Spurs midfielder as the long-term replacement for Xabi Alonso.

Bayern Munich scouts watched Dier in the recent Europa League second leg against Borussia Dortmund and presumably noticed his winner against Germany in the last international break. Video below.

According to Bild, they are impressed with Dier’s ball winning ability and his confidence on the ball.

In Tottenham’s favour when the big clubs come calling for many of their young stars is that a number of them are on long contracts.

Dier is contracted to Spurs until 2020 and will likely wish to continue working under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino plus alongside his great mate Dele Alli.
