Chelsea, Arsenal & Tottenham
On Wednesday, German paper Bild announced an eye-catching claim that Chelsea could be about to sack Antonio Conte to replace him with Thomas Tuchel.
As that rumour swirls, back in England the focus at Chelsea seems to be less about their manager and more about their recruitment policy.
With a week remaining in the summer window, Conte still wants to sign more players as Chelsea try to defend their Premier League crown.
The Telegraph have an update on Chelsea’s activities in the market on Thursday, and the Blues are looking to sign an Arsenal star and a Tottenham target.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain & Chelsea
Here we go again.
Claims Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be about to walk out of Arsenal have been circling for months.
The Ox is in the final year of his deal and all reports suggest he’s refusing to agree a new contract.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is now seen as a wing-back back-up at the Gunners, which may be part of the reason Chelsea are interested.
Conte has been searching for wing-backs throughout the summer. So could he sign Arsenal’s England international?
Tottenham target Ross Barkley
Another player on Chelsea’s shopping list is Everton’s Ross Barkley, who has been linked with a possible switch to Tottenham for months.
But will Barkley move this summer? Unfortunately for the player, the 23-year-old has been ruled out of action for three months with a hamstring injury, throwing the transfer into some doubt.
Chelsea’s English trio
The Telegraph sum up Chelsea’s attempts to sign the Ox and Barkley as follows:
Oxlade-Chamberlain is due to meet Arsene Wenger today, when Chelsea hope he will tell the Arsenal manager that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge.
Other than bidding £35 million for Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chelsea are still working towards finding an agreement for Danny Drinkwater, who Leicester City value at £40 million, and are refusing to give up on £25 million Ross Barkley, despite Tottenham Hotspur leading the chase for the Everton midfielder.
Aside from those targets, Juve left-back Alex Sandro and Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk remain in Chelsea’s viewfinder.
