As we wait for Christian Benteke to complete his move away from Aston Villa to Liverpool, French daily L’Equipe are already spending Villa’s windfall from that deal this Friday.
The front page of L’Equipe announces that Aston Villa are tracking Monaco forward Anthony Martial.
The highly-rated Martial, who has also been linked with a move to Tottenham this summer, recently penned a new deal at Monaco that extended his contract until 2019.
According to L’Equipe, Villa have not been put off by Martial’s recent contract extension, and the Clarets could be poised to bid for the France Under-21 international once Benteke’s supposed £32.5m move to Anfield is completed.
Martial scored nine goals in Ligue 1 last season, and Monaco are thought to want more than €10 million for the 19-year-old attacker.
In analysing why Martial would be interested in swapping playing for a top team in France for a team who finished last season in 17th place in the Premier League, L’Equipe simply explain that “the financial power of the club is colossal” in light of the Premier League’s new broadcasting deal.
