Spurs interest in Schneiderlin

Morgan Schneiderlin has only seen seven minutes of action from Manchester United’s first four games of the season but can take heart from a tweet by Times reporter Paul Hirst. The journalist predominantly covers the Manchester clubs and gave fans an update on the Frenchman’s status at Old Trafford.

He’s very much in Jose Mourinho’s plans. That’s what United told Spurs at least.

Mauricio Pochettino made enquiries about his former Southampton midfield general. He could be forgiven for thinking that Schniederlin was dispensable. Despite arriving on a big money deal from the Saints last season, he couldn’t command a place in Louis van Gaal’s starting eleven.

His performances lacked tenacity. Perhaps Mourinho can inspire better.

Old Trafford competition

While Paul Pogba’s place is assured in midfield, Schneiderlin is one of many midfielders hoping to get picked ahead of current first-teamer Marouane Fellaini. Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick are also hoping to be selected in a midfield berth. Further back, Bastian Schweinsteiger is holding out hope that he can make a first team return. Schneiderlin seems happy to fight for his place.
