Tottenham v Chelsea
Tonight at White Hart Lane, the festive period of matches comes to a close in the Premier League with an enormous encounter.
Tottenham take on runaway Premier League leaders Chelsea.
Spurs have won four on the bounce and victory would propel them above both Arsenal and Manchester City, to just seven points behind Antonio Conte’s side.
Chelsea, meanwhile, can make it an incredible 14 Premier League victories on the bounce, and victory would push them eight points clear of second placed Liverpool.
Throw in the fact that Chelsea ended Tottenham’s title run last season during the Battle of the Bridge and we have a fantastic game in prospect.
Mauricio Pochettino on Diego Costa
Ahead of the Spurs v Chelsea clash, Mauricio Pochettino has given a lengthy interview to Spanish radio station EFE.
Pochettino touches on a wide range of subjects, including Danny Rose, Erik Lamela’s fitness, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Paul Lopez and also his coaching staff.
The Tottenham boss was also asked about Diego Costa.
EFE: Tonight you face Chelsea in the biggest game of the week, against Diego Costa. I’m sure you’ve thought about how you’d mark him if you were still playing. Would it be one of those duels you’d have enjoyed being involved in?
Pochettino: Diego Costa is a player you hate to play against but love if he’s your teammate. He’s extremely competitive, with character, who never likes to lose. He’s proud and that means he can overcome things every day. He transmits that culture of winning to his teammates, to never be satisfied, to always want more. He makes you become better with each day and is someone everyone would love to have in their side.
We suspect many Chelsea fans and players would agree with this assessment of Costa. Spurs will need to stop the in-form Spanish striker tonight!
