The South African association is looking to hire either Roberto Mancini or Giovanni Trapattoni as their next international boss.
The Italian pair are currently without a job and have reportedly put their names forward for the job.
Mancini remains out of the job following his dismissal from Inter Milan, while Trapattoni has been without a position since leaving Ireland.
South Africa are without a coach having sacked their previous manager Shakes Mashaba.
The coach was dismissed at end of last year for gross misconduct and reports in Italy suggest that either coach could be set to take over.

Eyes on the Premier League?
Roberto Mancini has talked up the Premier League in recent months and seemingly was waiting for an offer.
If Mancini does not get the South Africa job, there could certainly be some interest in him coming back to the Premier League.
The Italian became only the second manager from his country to win the Premier League after Carlo Ancelotti.
