Sergio Ramos v Betis

Sergio Ramos v Fabian Schar: Real Madrid star was ‘provoked’

Deportivo La Coruna 0 – Real Madrid 3

Real Madrid began the La Liga season with a 3-0 away win at Deportivo La Coruna.

Real, the reigning La Liga championship, went into the break 2-up.

Gareth Bale fired Los Blancos in front, before a fantastic team move, which included 44-passes, was finished by Casemiro.

After the break Toni Kroos added a third for Real.

However the match ended on a sour note for Madrid, as Sergio Ramos was sent off.

Sergio Ramos sent off

Ramos was sent off for a second yellow card at the end of the match.

Ramos caught Borja Valle with an arm as they both jumped for a high ball.

The defender criticised the officials for their decision. He said:

I do not agree with the card but I respect the opinion of the referee. Sometimes officials should look at English football and let us play more.

I like their system because in Europe, referees are more lenient.

Sergio Ramos v Fabian Schar

While Ramos was upset with his dismissal, he was lucky he wasn’t sent off previously.

Earlier in the match, Ramos put his hands on the face of Deportivo’s Fabian Schar.

Many complained that Ramos deserved to receive his marching orders for that incident.

After the game, the two protagonists had their say on the incident.

Schar said: “I think that what happened with Ramos will be seen in the video. I provoked him a bit but he hit me in the face.”

As for Ramos, he said: “Schar head butted me. I didn’t throw the ball away because they did not as well.”
