It was coming.
After weeks of speculation, Alan Pardew got the sack from Crystal Palace today.
Palace’s results have been on a downward spiral for weeks now, and having ‘guided’ Palace to 17th spot, it seems Pardew’s position had become untenable for the Palace board, and they relieved him of his duties today.
After his ignominious end to his Newcastle job, that’s two successive sackings for Pards; he’ll do well to walk straight back into a job, and he may have to look below the Premier League for his next role.
Big Sam to the rescue?
As is par for the course, it took less than an hour for a list of potential replacements to be speculated upon.
According to Sky Sports, Big Sam Allardyce has emerged as the front runner, and Palace have already made plans to talk to him.
Big Sam was of course sacked by England in dramatic and bizarre fashion a few months back, when he was caught out in a sting operation by the Telegraph.
That resulted in a moral panic and it seemed Big Sam’s reputation had taken a big hit, but time is a great healer, and it seems football is ready to accept Big Sam back into its bosom.
