Liverpool target a former Man United flop
A website called Football Whispers have got tongues wagging on Wednesday linking Liverpool with a former Man United flop.
The target? Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.
Whether the story is believable is up for debate.
Most will never have heard of Football Whispers, while they claim to have scored the exclusive story from “sources close to (Liverpool)”.
Of course, it’s possible that these unnamed sources are spot on and the Zaha story is perfectly accurate. But, without much else to go on with regards to credibility, it’s difficult to know how much weight to put into the rumour.
So what are the details?
While Palace are struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League, Wilfried Zaha has been the Eagles star player.
He’s chipped in with goals and assists this season, and it’s easy to understand why bigger EPL clubs would be sniffing around the winger.
At the same time, Palace will surely be determined to hold onto their asset as they try to beat the drop this season.
Football Whispers tell their readers the following:
Liverpool are still owed £5million from the Benteke deal with Palace not paying the £30million upfront. Liverpool would look to use that to their in advantage in getting Zaha for a knockdown price if they forgo the potential clauses in the Belgian’s deal.
