Spanish website Mundo Deportivo have today recalled how David De Gea almost left Manchester United to join Real Madrid last season.

As we now know, the deal collapsed in the very last seconds of last summer’s transfer window amid claims of faulty fax machines and general technical mishaps.

De Gea has since signed a new agreement with the Red Devils. He’s under contract at Old Trafford until 2019.

Locking down Keylor Navas

According to Mundo Deportivo, Los Blancos are now close to signing keeper Keylor Navas to a new deal.

The 29-year-old Costa Rican international is under contract until 2020.

The word on the street is that Real and Navas have agreed terms for a new deal that will see the keeper’s salary go from around two million euros a season up to four million euros a year.

Mundo Deportivo note that Navas’s new deal is still three times less that what Los Blancos were willing to pay De Gea last summer.
