Coutinho a doubt for Saints game
Philippe Coutinho’s fitness is a concern for Liverpool’s Premier League clash at Southampton on Saturday.
According to the Echo, the Brazil international was photographed at Liverpool’s Spire Hospital on Thursday afternoon and is believed to have undergone a scan ahead of this weekend’s clash at St Mary’s.
The in-form attacking midfielder played 170 minutes of football for Brazil during the international break as he helped them clinch World Cup qualifying wins over both Argentina and Peru.
However, this recent stint of international football has meant that Coutinho and club-mate Roberto Firmino, only arrived back in the UK from South America on Wednesday night, meaning they are limited to just two days to prepare themselves for the Saints game.
The talented duo did report to Melwood the day after returning home but neither took part in training with Jurgen Klopp’s squad and were most likely treated to a recovery day after their long journey home.
Wijnaldum and Sturridge could start
Given the fitness concerns of Coutinho, this could mean that Daniel Sturridge will start for Liverpool.
Also there could be a start for Gini Wijnaldum too as Adam Lallana is expected to sit out Saturday’s game due to a minor groin problem picked up in England’s friendly against Spain.
