Giliano Wijnaldum signs for Philadelphia Union
MLS club Philadelphi Union made a transfer announcement on Twitter this evening, declaring that they’d signed Giliano Wijnaldum from German club Bochum.
The Dutch left-back thus makes the move Stateside at just 24 years of age, possibly in a bid to reignite his career, having failed to land a regular place at Bochum.
Giliano is the younger brother of Liverpool player Georginio, and given that the Reds midfielder is nicknamed ‘Gini’, it’s fair to say that their names are quite similar.
Liverpool fans panic
As are their appearances. Just 2 years separate the two brothers, who are of a similar build and height.
Which meant that some Liverpool fans got a bit of a fright, thinking for a brief second that their midfielder had left them.
Which would of course been arguably the most spectacular transfer of all time.
It’s fair to assume we won’t be seeing the elder Wijnaldum brother in MLS any time soon.
@PhilaUnion I swear to you I thought that said Gerginio
