Like most machines arriving on our shores day in, day out, there wasn’t much of a fuss when N’Golo Kante was signed by Leicester in 2015. Fans thought they were getting a solid, reliable Fiat. Little did they know, the Foxes had bought a bargain Rolls-Royce. Kante proved to be the key man in the club’s fairy-tale title triumph.
One might argue that Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez were just as, if not more, important.
But a new statistic published by Sky Sports shows that Kante is a points magnet.
It’s no coincidence that switching to Chelsea changed the fortunes of both clubs. The France international is a special player, a unique player, and will probably get another title medal this season.
Since Kante came to England, Leicester and Chelsea have picked up a combined 67 points in 55 games without him but an incredible 120 points in the 53 matches he’s featured in. That puts him way out of front of Nacho Monreal (101), the next player to have won the most points over the last two Premier League seasons.
The next four players on that list play for Arsenal, cementing their nearly-men tag.
