Alan Shearer v Jurgen Klopp
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has penned an article in the Sun on Monday, and the Match of the Day pundit has torn into Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
It was another difficult weekend for the Reds as they drew 1-1 at home to Burnley.
The result set off alarm bell for the Reds, who have developed a nasty habit of failing to beat so-called lessor teams in recent seasons. Of course, they drew 3-3 with Watford in the opening game of the campaign too.
Arguably, that trend started for Jurgen Klopp last season when Liverpool lost 2-0 to Burnley at Turf Moor.
‘Liverpool’s defending is laughable’
After five rounds of the new season, Liverpool are down in eighth.
They have eight points on the board, while they trail league leaders Man United and Man City by five points already.
Are the Reds already out of the Premier League title race?
Shearer has now opened the floodgates of frustration in Klopp’s direction, as the Newcastle icon has ripped into the German boss:
I am left wondering just what (Klopp) does on the training ground when the same defensive errors are repeated week in, week out.
What I witnessed on Saturday in their draw at home to Burnley was laughable.
Klopp must sort out the defending or that long-awaited title will remain a very distant dream.
Shearer also included a graphic in his article revealing how Brendan Rodgers had a better record at Anfield than Klopp at this stage of his career.
But what about the attack?
But did Shearer really pick up of Liverpool’s biggest failing against Burnley?
Rather than focusing on the Reds backline, Liverpool fans were really left down by their attack.
Liverpool have scored only three goals from 73 attempted shots in their last three Premier League matches against Burnley.
That’s a 4% conversion rate, which is obviously appalling.
Sticking on the same theme, Liverpool had 30 more shots than Burnley at Anfield on Saturday.
WHAT A MELTDOWN
