Monaco rebuilding job 2017
AS Monaco have been a breath of fresh air this season, taking Ligue 1 and the Champions League by storm with an exciting young team. But it would be naive for the French club to think their work is done.
In the summer, they will continue to recruit as they expect a rebuilding job.
It’s one of the drawbacks of success for a club hovering just outside the elite of the elite. Monaco can see the vultures circling and don’t expect to hang on to all of their exciting prodigies.
At least one of Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, Thomas Lemar, Djibril Sidibe and Tiemoué Bakayoko is expected to leave this summer. Replacing them will be tough but Monaco are targeting the best.
Bidding for Tielemans
According to L’Equipe, Monaco are in pole position to sign Youri Tielemans.
The 19-year-old will be in action against Manchester United this week when Anderlecht clash with the Red Devils in the Europa League. He’ll be the biggest threat to Jose Mourinho’s side.
A first-team star for several years, the teenage midfielder is Belgium’s answer to Dele Alli. With 18 goals and 11 assists this season, he’s wanted by the biggest clubs on the continent.
But seeing how Monaco develop talent appears to have convinced Tielemans that this is the most logical next step for him. Sharing the same agent as ex-Monaco player Yannick Carrasco has helped.
