David De Gea

Manchester United set to trigger one year option in key player’s deal [Sun]

Keeping their best players

Manchester United are trying to keep their key players at the club, and only days after revealing they’re set to exercise the one year extension in Marouane Fellaini’s deal, they’ve now said they want to do the same for goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Sun have claimed that Jose Mourinho is understandably desperate to keep their best players, and De Gea is the star man – who is still wanted by Real Madrid according to some sources.

The Spanish side have been linked with either De Gea or Thibaut Courtois on almost a weekly basis – and it seems Mourinho is determined to make sure he keeps his star man.

Still so important

Now Mourinho might have made a dig at Louis van Gaal about De Gea winning the Player of the Year award, but the Spaniard has also been incredible this season, making key save after key save, and ideally, United will want him to sign a new, long term contract.

Currently, the one year extension will take him to 2020, and the club will also offer a huge payrise to the player – something he will fee is more than deserved.
