Manchester City set to complete signing of £30m defender

Manchester City are expected to complete the signing of Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion in a deal worth £30m sometime next week, according to the Mirror.

City close in

Manchester City expect to complete a deal with West Brom before the transfer window closes.

West Brom have already rejected an £18m bid from City for their captain.

Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to return with another offer in the coming days.

Contract rebel

The Baggies are determined to keep hold of Evans this window and have requested a very high fee.

This, however, has not deterred the interest of Manchester City in the former United man.

Evans is yet to feature this season after he refused to sign the new contract offered to him by Albion.

The 29-year-old has been named in Northern Ireland’s squad to face San Marino and Czech Republic next month.

West Brom building their defence

Manager Tony Pulis has already tied down Craig Dawson to a new contract and hopes to do the same with Jonny Evans.

Meanwhile, West Brom hope to add another central defender this month.

They are reportedly tracking Tottenham’s Kevin Wimmer and Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson.

Earlier we reported that they are also tracking Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross, but a deal seems unlikely.
