Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal pulled the plug on a transfer for Renato Sanches, the Manchester Evening News are reporting. The Benfica starlet signed for Bayern Munich today in a deal that shocked United fans.
For weeks it had been claimed that the Red Devils were edging closer to signing the 18-year-old midfielder for an obscene amount of money; the exact amount and when it was to be paid being the barrier to completing a deal.
Bayern apparently entered negotiations two days ago and wrapped things up very quickly. The German champions also announced the signing of Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund today too.
Van Gaal allegedly opted to pass on Sanches because he has other targets in mind. Ed Woodward’s compliance with the Dutchman’s wishes would hint that United intend to keep him at the club for another season.
This decision won’t be popular among the majority of United fans who would prefer a new coach to be appointed.
