Lionel Messi has not yet signed a new contract at Barcelona despite the club announcing he had signed back in July and the player demands signings.
According to reports in Spain, Messi wants the club to sign a marquee player before he finally puts pen to paper on his new deal.
It was thought that Messi had signed the new deal in July but an official statement from the club seemed to suggest that all they are looking for is a signature.
The statement, including quotes from technical secretary Robert Fernández, explained that the club would still be very surprised if it didn’t go through.
“It has all been discussed and only the signature is missing. I would be very surprised if it didn’t go through,” he explained.
That will certainly worry Barcelona fans after their destruction at the hands of Real Madrid in the Supercopa.
Neymar also left the Camp Nou for Paris Saint Germain in the summer and that could well have fans slightly worried over Messi’s new deal that it hasn’t actually been signed yet.

With some reports suggesting that Messi is waiting on the club to conclude their transfer business, they will be hoping deals for Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele get over the line.
Both players were mentioned in the statement released by the club that claimed that they were still interested in signing the players but the final decision will come from their parent clubs.
That comes as both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund look to keep their most prized assets but that is certainly proving difficult.
Coutinho has already submitted a transfer request in at Anfield and that is certainly going to have Liverpool worried.
Dortmund are in a similar position but Dembele has actually left the club for Barcelona and has refused to come back.
