Dimitri Payet at Marseille

Ex-West Ham star Dimitri Payet confirms burglary at his home

Marseille v Dijon

Dimitri Payet’s Ligue 1 season starts on Sunday when Marseille host Dijon.

For Payet, this will be the start of a full season with OM having re-joined the club from West Ham last January.

Such a huge success at West Ham, Payet was not replaced properly in January, with Robert Snodgrass failing to live up to the standards of the French magician.

West Ham supporters will be hoping Marko Arnautovic can improve on Snodgrass in 2017/2018.

Not everything is going so well for Payet in Marseille

On Saturday, Payet took to Twitter to confirm a story that was doing the rounds in the French media.

On Friday evening, Payet’s family home was burgled.

French newspaper Le Monde reported that two jewellery boxes, valued at 110,000 euros, were stolen from the Payet home.

Payet asleep during burglary

Payet and his family were sleeping at the time of the theft.

They realised that there had been intruders on Saturday, after a door had been left open by those that had entered the residence between Friday night and the morning.

Payet took to Twitter and confirmed the burglary as well as informing his followers that everyone was fine.

“My whole family and I are doing very well”

The Marseille playmaker Tweeted: “Everything that is said or written about the incident and the amounts that have been mentioned is pure speculation and does not reflect the truth at all.”

Payet continued: “It is true that there was indeed an incident and I want to clarify that my whole family and I are doing very well. The larceny is fortunately minor and has not traumatised anyone and this is in my eyes the main issue.”

The French international played 88 minutes as Marseille drew 0-0 with KV Oostende, to progress 4-2 on aggregate in the Europa League, on Thursday.
