Sunderland are off the bottom
The opening few months of the Premier League season weren’t easy for Sunderland.
With David Moyes in charge, the Black Cats continued were they left off last season; struggling in the top flight.
But in recent weeks, spearheaded by the brilliant evergreen Jermain Defoe, Sunderland have picked up three wins in four EPL matches.
Victories over Bournemouth and Hull were backed up on Saturday with a 2-1 win over champs Leicester.
That now means that Sunderland are no longer bottom of the league. They are third bottom, and just a point behind Boro (who face Hull on Monday) and West Ham.
MOTD pundits admit they were wrong
When the topic of Sunderland arose on Match of the Day, the pundits ate humble pie.
Chris Sutton admitted he had written Sunderland off this season, but he now holds his hands up.
He also praised Victor Anichebe’s impact at the Stadium of Light since his arrival.
Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer concurred with his fellow pundit.
The former Magpies centre-forward called Sunderland “absolutely brilliant” against Leicester.
