England boss Gareth Southgate tries to convince Wilfried Zaha to choose Three Lions

England or Ivory Coast

Gareth Southgate is trying to convince Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha to pledge his allegiance to England, according to Press Association football writer Simon Peach.

Zaha, who was born in the Ivory Coast, has two senior caps for England.

As he’s only played for the Three Lions in international friendlies, Zaha could still represent the country of his birth.

Last month, the Ivorian Football Federation confirmed that the 24-year-old had sent correspondence to FIFA to switch his international football allegiance from England to the Ivory Coast.

Boost for Palace

If Southgate manages to persuade Zaha, it could be a big boost for Crystal Palace.

Sam Allardyce’s side are set to lose Zaha for most of January as Ivory Coast will be competing in next month’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon.
