Run a lot
David Luiz was deployed in the middle of the park for Chelsea’s win over Tottenham Hotspur, and spoke about what Antonio Conte said to him after changing his role – due to injuries and suspensions in the side.
Luiz played well – along with the back three, with Cesar Azpilicueta solid as ever and young starlet Christensen also doing well. While Rudiger struggled at times, Luiz certainly did not in midfield, and showed just how much he has improved since his last spell at the club.
The London Evening Standard report Luiz when speaking to Sky Sports said: “Run! Run a lot! Not to cover the space of (Christian) Eriksen and Dele Alli.
“They always play very well between the lines so I was there to close this gap and not leave any space for them to create so I was trying to do my best.
“It was a clever game because you need to understand that when you play against a very good team sometimes you can keep more of the ball, possession, but sometimes you need to surprise and counter-attack. I think we did great in a clever way.
“Last week was a terrible first half and then the second half was great.
“Today was great, playing against a fantastic team with fantastic players. I think we did great and deserved the win.
“It was important to show that (character) after a defeat.”
There’s no denying the win was a huge coup for Chelsea and something that will turn the media back into thinking the club are set to defend their title and will not roll over like they did the last time they were in this position.
That of course is huge and something Conte has spoken about time and time again – and has asked the board if they can bring in more players to allow him a real shot at another title.
