According to a growing number of outlets across England, Chelsea full-back Baba Rahman is closing on a loan move to Bundesliga outfit Schalke.
Rahman, a 23-year-old Ghanaian full-back, has been on the books at Stamford Bridge since his big-money move from Augsburg in 2015.
However, following a difficult debut campaign during which he started just 11 Premier League matches, Rahman was sent out on loan to German outfit Schalke 04 at the beginning of last season.
A successful stint with Die Knappen was cut short by a season-ending knee injury suffered at the African Cup of Nations in January, with the stopper having been recovering at Chelsea since.
And, as confirmed by Schalke this afternoon, Rahman could be set for yet another loan spell at the Veltins-Arena this coming season.
Antonio Conte has reportedly not ruled out a future at Stamford Bridge for Rahman, but feels the former Greuther Furth standout needs more game-time before he will come into consideration in the English capital.
Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel confirmed this afternoon that his side are in negotiations for Rahman, but that his fitness levels will play a crucial role in any potential transfer:
‘We are in talks with the player, his advisor and Chelsea.’
‘Ultimately, it is about when Baba will be able to play again. No decision has yet been made.’
