Barcelona tie down star man until 2022

With the new manager of Barcelona having been announced today, another shrewd piece of business on the part of the Camp Nou side has gone a little bit under the radar.

The piece of business in question comes in the form of a contract renewal, with first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen having put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him in Catalunya until 2022.

While many had tipped fellow shot-stopper Jasper Cillessen to challenge Ter Stegen for a spot between the posts at the Liga giants following his arrival last summer, former Ajax man Cillessen has barely had a look-in, with his German rival having cemented his spot as no.1 with a number of fine displays this season.

In typical Barca fashion of-late, Ter Stegen’s buyout clause has been set at a slightly ridiculous 180 million Euro, with the 25-year-old looking likely to remain first-choice ‘keeper at the club for the foreseeable future.
