With rumours intensifying in the Spanish press yesterday that Argentine star Lionel Messi had put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with Barcelona, the 5-time Ballon D’Or winner has today spoken on which club he hopes to finish his playing career with.
Having been questioned on whether he had in fact signed a new contract with the Blaugrana, Messi revealed the following in an interview with TenCent:
‘Today, I [only] think of my day today, in Barcelona, where I am at.’
‘To strive to achieve and get the most titles that we can, because in football, we don’t know what could happen in the year to come. So I like to take it calm and little by little.’
‘[Staying with Barca] is what I have always wanted, what I have always dreamt of. I said that I would like to end my career in Barcelona, and we will see if it ends that way.’
While rumours have come and gone in recent seasons that Messi could eventually depart Catalunya in search of a new experience, the possibility of a transfer ever actually formulating for the little Argentine had always seemed unlikely, with today’s news only reaffirming the loyalty of ‘Leo’ to the Camp Nou faithful.
