It’s been quite a while since Andoni Zubizarreta turned out for Barcelona.

Sacked from his role as the club’s sporting director last January, Zubizarreta made over 300 appearances for the Catalans from 1986 to 1994.

During that period, he won the Spanish league title four times, the Copa del Rey twice, and the European Super Cup, Cup Winners’ Cup and European Cup once each.

Zubizarreta also made an amazing 126 appearances for Spain in goal.

On Sunday, however, the goalie has lost a Spanish league record.

Valencia picked up a 2-1 away win at Leganes, which included a penalty save from Los Che keeper Diego Alves.

Alves has now made 17 penalty saves in La Liga, which is a new record. Zubizarreta had previously held the record with 16 stops.
