Diego Costa & Chelsea
It’s still unclear where Diego Costa will be playing his football this season.
Atletico Madrid want to re-sign the striker, however they are under a transfer embargo until the new year.
That means Costa is likely to agree a deal with another club for the first half of the 2017-18 campaign, while the likes of AC Milan and Besiktas have been linked to the Spanish international striker.
Of course, the summer began with Antonio Conte informing Costa he was no longer wanted at the Blues. Conte delivered that message via a text message.
What went wrong?
Without naming Costa specifically, the Italian manager has touched on the issues of player power during a new interview with the Times.
It’s hard to believe that Conte wasn’t talking about Costa when he made the following statements:
If you want an identity you need all players to go into your idea. Otherwise it is very difficult if I want to give the identity to the club and ask the No 10 to stay in his position and this No 10 is around the pitch, it is very difficult to give this identity. The coach becomes crazy . . . this is true.
The coach must be in total control of the dressing room. Otherwise there is anarchy. Yes, anarchy.
Last season, Costa had a public falling out with his manager during Chelsea v Leicester game in the Premier League.
