Manchester United bag their first three points of the season at Fratton Park

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Portsmouth 0 - Manchester United 1 (Premier League, August 25, 2008) Paul Scholes tested David James just before the twenty minute mark at Fratton Park. Darren Fletcher broke the deadlock just after the half-hour, bagging his second goal in two games, after great work by Evra who was fed by a fine through ball from Tevez. Four minutes before the break, Wayne Rooney went close to doubling United’s lead. (First half highlights here.) United continued to dominate in the second half but failed to turn their possession into a second goal and the best Pompey could manage was a long range effort from Papa Bouba Diop saved by Van der Sar. (Second half highlights here.)

Southport 1 - Fleetwood Town 1 (Blue Square North, August 25, 2008)

Nimes 1 - Lens 2 (Ligue 2, August 25, 2008)

Genoa 3 - Mantova 1 (Coppa Italia, August 24, 2008) A first half double from Olivera put Genoa in control. Milanetto added a third before Passoni netted a consolation.
