It is fair to say it didn’t affect the end result as Manchester United were already 4-3 to the good when Robin van Persie struck the ball for what appeared to be his second goal against Reading on Saturday.
Nevertheless, some Manchester United fans have pointed to the fact that they would be level on goal difference with Manchester City had this goal been allowed and above all, it once again proves the need for goal line technology.
We have banged on for some time about goal line technology on 101 Great Goals and whilst the wheels have been set in motion, it is simply incredible that we are still bemoaning this as we close in on 2013.
Robin van Persie’s goal, which clearly crossed the line, as can be seen on the picture above and GIF below, could well impact on the Premier League title race as well as the race to be top goal scorer.
Its difficult to blame Mark Halsey and the officials for missing this one as ultimately they do not have the necessary tools to get everything right.
And, who says all the decisions go for Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United?!
