Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi was caught up in an embarrassing episode on Tuesday as the world’s best player fielded questions on his return to the Argentina squad.
Ahead of World Cup qualifying matches against Ecuador and Paraguay, Messi appeared in a press conference and appeared to be caught off guard by an intrusive reporter.
She first “congratulated” Messi on the rumoured pregnancy of his girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo, before joking: “This will go to show all those who criticise you and say you can only put it in for Barcelona.”
The reporter, from Argentine comedy show “Caiga Quien Caiga,” then asked whether Messi would prefer to beat Brazil in the World Cup final with a last minute goal or by thrashing their great South American rivals.
After looking embarrassed (which is how Argentine paper Ole described him), Messi said: “I didn’t actually hear the question because I was thinking of something else. I want to win, no matter how it occurs. Let’s have a 4-0, so we don’t suffer too much.”
Footage of the incident, in Spanish, is here:
