A full round of action in Brazil’s second division was always likely to throw up something spectacular and the game between Guarani and Atletico PR duly produced a beautiful moment.
The 1-1 draw between promotion chasers Atletico PR and mid-table side Guarani featured two “Golacos” – the first a cracking hit from Marcelo for the home side on 62.
Six minutes later, Guarani won a free-kick on the edge of the Atletico box and goalkeeper Emerson stepped up to take it. Considering the custodian had only ever scored one other career goal this seemed a bit of a risk.
After the game Emerson said he practices free-kicks on a regular basis and cites Sao Paulo keeper Rogerio Ceni, a regular goal scorer from dead ball positions, as an inspiration.
