JEF United Chiba 0 – Nagoya Grampus Eight 2 (J-League, August 19, 2009) Australian international Josh Kennedy continued his amazing start to life in Japan with his fourth goal in five games, before Keiji Tamada scored a diving header to hand Nagoya the points.

Urawa Red Diamonds 1 – Kashiwa Reysol 4 (J-League, August 19, 2009) Second-bottom Kashiwa pulled off a major upset winning at Urawa. Yuki Otsu and Popo (superb strike) put the visitors 2-up before Marcus Tulio Tanaka powered home a header for Urawa. After the break Reysol added further goals from Franca and Otsu claimed his second.

Kyoto Sanga FC 0 – Shimizu S-Pulse 1 (J-League, August 19, 2009) Jungo Fujimoto hit a long-range free-kick to give Shimizu victory over Kyoto.

Vissel Kobe 1 – Kashima Antlers 0 (J-League, August 19, 2009) Japan international striker Yoshito Okubo was the hero for the hosts, the striker needed less than a minute to fire the home side ahead and Kobe held on to the narrow victory.
