Yamagata 3 – Jubilo Iwata 1 (J-League, July 19, 2009) Yamagata won the match courtesy of a ten minute first-half burst. Shogo Kobara put Montedio ahead before Ryoichi Maeda equalised for Jubilo, only for Yamagata to move back in front with goals from Katsuyuki Miyazawa and Yu Hasegawa.
New England Revolution 2 – Chivas USA 0 (MLS, July 19, 2009) Kheli Dube collected a Shalrie Joseph through-ball to race through a score the opener on the hour, Steve Ralston making the points safe picking up on an error in the Chivas defence to claim the second.
DC United 3 – Colorado Rapids 1 (MLS, July 18, 2009) The Rapids lead in the 14th minute after a miscue from United defender Bryan Namoff saw the ball crash into his own net. The hosts rallied after the break, Jaime Moreno converted a penalty before Namoff redeemed himself with a header in the 56th minute. Luciano Emilio added a third to put the result safe.
Columbus Crew 3 – Real Salt Lake 1 (MLS, July 18, 2009) Jason Garey bagged a goal in each half to lead the Columbus Crew to a victory over RSL. Steven Lenhart also scored for Columbus while Raphael Cox scored his first goal for Real Salt Lake.
