Beckham sees red for the Galaxy in Seattle loss; Goals from the MLS, A-League & J-League

Seattle Sounders 2 – LA Galaxy 0 (MLS, August 15, 2009) David Beckham was booed off the pitch after the former England captain was given a straight red card for a reckless tackle on the Sounders midfielder Peter Vagenas in the 17th minute. Steve Zakuani opened the scoring for Seattle in the 22nd minute while hotshot forward Fredy Montero added the second after the break to wrap up the points for the Sounders. Late on, both Tyrone Marshall and Eddie Lewis went for early baths for separate red card incidents.

Omiya Ardija 1 – Jubilo Iwata 1 (J-League, August 16, 2009) An own goal earned Omiya Ardija a share of the spoils against Jubilo Iwata after Norihiro Nishi had opened the scoring for the visitors in the 26th minute.

Shimizu S-Pulse 1 – Albirex Niigata 1 (J-League, August 16, 2009) Shinji Okazaki put the hosts ahead in the 34th minute by heading home a Daisuke Ichikawa cross at the near post. Niigata levelled thanks to a fine strike from Marcio Richardes in the 77th minute.
