AFC Champions League: Kawasaki thrashes Melbourne; Esteghlal beat Al Gharafa; Al Ahli hit five

Kawasaki Frontale 4 – Melbourne Victory 0 (AFC Champions League, March 23, 2010) Jong Tae-se, Masaru Kurotsu and Renatinho scored in the third, 11th minute and 22nd minutes respectively while Hiroyuki Taniguchi completed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute. Both sides were reduced to 10 men with Jong receiving his marching orders in the 45th minute before Leigh Broxham was sent off late on for the visitors.

Seongnam Ilhwa 3 – Beijing Guoan 1 (AFC Champions League, March 23, 2010) Former Rangers player Maurice Ross gave the visitors the lead on 18 minutes but the hosts drew level with 10 minutes through Song Ho-Young. Seongnam went ahead just three minutes from time through the Montenegro midfielder, Dzenan Radoncic, before Jo Jae-Chol wrapped up the points in injury time.

Henan 0 – Suwon Bluewings 2 (AFC Champions League, March 23, 2010) Brazilian Juninho fired Suwon ahead scoring from a terrific 35-yard free-kick. Jose Mota sealed victory with a second goal in the 73rd minute after dribbling past two defenders inside the box and applied the cool finish.

Esteghlal 3 – Al Gharafa 0 (AFC Champions League, March 23, 2010) Captain Farhad Majidi was the star of the match for the Blues netting a brace.

Al-Ain 2 – Al Shabab 1 (AFC Champions League, March 23, 2010) Emerson fired Jorge Valdivia’s pass into the bottom corner to open the scoring after 14 minutes and Argentinian striker Jose Sand doubled the lead ten minutes later when he redirected Valdivia’s header. Abdulaziz Saran pulled a goal back in first-half stoppage-time before skipper Valdivia collected a second yellow in the second half, but the hosts held on to collect the points.

Al Ahli 5 – Al-Jazira 1 (AFC Champions League, March 23, 2010) Brazilian midfielder Marcinho and Abdulrahim Jezawi scored twice each in a comprehensive win.
