VIDEO: Watford whack Wednesday for four; Leaders Leverkusen draw with Dortmund

Watford 4 – Sheffield Wednesday 1 (Championship, October 23, 2009) Two first-half goals in quick succession from Adrian Mariappa and Henri Lansbury put the Hornets firmly in the driving seat, although Marcus Tudgay’s header on the stroke of half-time gave the visitors hope. But the Owls were a poor second best for most of the night and it showed after the break as the home side completed a great night’s work through Jon Harley and Lansbury’s second.

Bayer Leverkusen 1 – Borussia Dortmund 1 (Bundesliga, October 23, 2009) Lucas Barrios got on the end of Nelson Valdez’s cross and headed low past Rene Adler to put Dortmund in front. Manuel Friedrich had equalised in the 64th minute making no mistake when he headed low past Weidenfeller, from a cross by Tranquillo Barnetta.

FC Utrecht 2 – Roda 1 (Eredivisie, October 23, 2009) Jacob Mulenga struck the opener two minutes before the break, and Ricky van Wolfswinkel added a second after 74 minutes. Willem Janssen’s stoppage-time strike was a mere consolation for Roda.

Trabzonspor 2 – Kayserispor 1 (Super Lig, October 23, 2009) Trabzonspor had to come from a goal down after Ariza Makukula gave Kayserispor the lead in the 18th minute. The hosts were in front by half-time, though, thanks to goals from Gokhan Unal (36) and then Ceyhun Gulselam (45) and they hung on to the advantage in a match which saw defender Ali Turan sent off in the 70th minute.

Orebro 2 – Halmstad 1 (Allsvenskan, October 23, 2009) After Emir Kujovic handed Halmsted the lead, goals from Roni Porokara turned the match in the hosts’ favour.

GAIS 1 – Malmo 1 (Allsvenskan, October 23, 2009) A thunderbolt from Mattias Lindstrom looked like giving GAIS all three points until Figueiredo’s last gasp penalty earned Malmo a point.

Rosario Central 2 – Independiente 0 (Apertura, October 23, 2009) A Jorge Broun penalty and a neat finish from Emilio Zelaya after the break earned Rosario the points.

Estudiantes 1 – Atletico Tucuman 0 (Apertura, October 23, 2009) Mauro Boselli’s first half penalty proved enough for the hosts.

Newcastle Jets 2 – Central Coast Mariners 1 (A-League, October 23, 2009) Micheal Bridges snared his first goal for the Jets with a well-taken strike in the eighth minute of play before Labinot Haliti made it two to the home team when he poked home from close range in the 14th minute. Central Coast striker Adam Kwasnik made it 2-1 in the 19th minute but the hosts held on for the three points.
