VIDEO: Stoke edge a 5-goal thriller with Fulham; Super Sevilla win at Barca; Drogba leads the Ivory Coast past Tanzania

Stoke 3 – Fulham 2 (Premier League, January 5, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Tuncay Sanli headed Stoke into the lead on 12 minutes from close range after Huth had won the initial header. Abdoulaye Faye claimed the second for the hosts, from a terrific whipped free-kick from Matty Etherington just after the half hour. Mamady Sidibe completed a great half for the Potters with the third goal on 37, his first goal for over a year. (First half highlights here.) A deflected effort from Damien Duff gave Fulham some hope just after the hour, and with five minutes remaining Clint Dempsey scored a wonder-goal out of nothing, controlling a long ball from the back, collecting a flick-on and unleashing a dipping 30-yard volley that flew past Simonsen to set up a tense finish. Barcelona 1 – Sevilla 2 (Copa del Rey last 16 first-leg, January 5, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) Despite Sevilla arriving to the Nou Camp with a side hamstrung by a long list of absentees, Barca failed to get their game in gear and were duly punished on the hour mark when Diego Capel swept home a left wing cross at the back post. 13 minutes later Barca hit back when Zlatan Ibrahimovic when the Swede managed to beat the offside trap to latch onto a long punt upfield, and after rounding the keeper, the striker rolled the ball into the empty net. Incredibly, within 60 seconds Sevilla retook the lead when Alvaro Negredo tucked home a penalty to leave the Catalans again chasing the match.

Porto 1 – Leixoes 0 (Taca de Portugal, January 5, 2010) Silvestre Varela’s header in first half injury time was enough for Porto to claim victory.

Kavala 2 – Levadiakos 2 (Greek Super League, January 5, 2010) Benjamin Onwuachi’s brace from Kavala was twice cancelled out by the visitors.

Atromitos 0 – Aris Saloniki 3 (Greek Super League, January 5, 2010) A brace from Javier Campora helped lead Aris to victory.

Al-Ain 1 – Werder Bremen 2 (Friendly, January 5, 2010) Claudio Pizarro scored a brace in three minutes towards the end of the first half, Fayez pulled one back for the home side.

Tanzania 0 – Ivory Coast 1 (International Friendly, January 5, 2010) Didier Drogba left Tanzanian defenders in his wake in the 37th minute when the Chelsea forward rose high to meet an Emmanuel Eboue cross and powerfully planted a header past the helpless Stars’ goalkeeper Muharami Mohammed.
