Newcastle 2 – West Brom 2 (Championship, January 18, 2010) In the battle between the best defence and most potent attack in the Championship, West Brom took a 13th minutes lead when Jonas Olsson knocked home a Dorrans cross. Newcastle came back into the match eleven minutes later thanks to a fine free-kick from Danny Guthrie. Seconds after the break WBA regained the lead through an easy header for Roman Bednar following another Dorrans assist. Peter Lovenkrands tied the game at 2-2 just seven minutes later for his fourth goal in two matches.
Antalyaspor 4 – Fenerbahce 3 (Turkish Cup, January 18, 2010) Ivorian striker Serge Dijehoua was the hero for Antalyaspor with a brace including the 88th minute winner.
Hapoel Tel Aviv 4 – Hapoel Beer-Sheva 1 (Ligat ha’Al, January 18, 2010) Gil Vermouth chipped in with a brace for second placed Hapoel.
Mali 3 – Malawi 1 (African Cup of Nations, January 18, 2010) Two outstanding Malian goals in the opening three minutes left Malawi in a world of pain in their attempts to qualify the group. A keeping howler from Malawi’s Sanudi saw the goalie scuff a clearance to Freddie Kanoute who volleyed home from 35-yards. That goal was then bettered by Seydou Kieta who thumped an unbelievable free-kick from distance past Sanudi to double the lead. Russel Mwafulirwa reduced the deficit for Malawi just before the hour, bur Mali ran out comfortable, but eventually unsuccessful, winners when Mamadou Bagayoko netted a third five minutes from time.
Angola 0 – Algeria 0 (African Cup of Nations, January 18, 2010) The draw suited both teams perfectly, with Angola going through as Group A winners on five points and Algeria as runners-up on four points.
