VIDEO: Liverpool lose Champions League ground in Wigan defeat; Manchester United win in the reserves

Wigan 1 – Liverpool 0 (Premier League, March 8, 2010) After creating the better chances in the first half, Wigan broke the deadlock against Liverpool in the 35th minute when Kuyt lost the ball on the edge of his own box, Boyce crossed to Hugo Rodallega and the striker scuffed his shot and past Reina and over the line. (First half highlights here.) Liverpool were awful after the break and never looked liked finding an equaliser, allowing Wigan to claim their first ever win over the Reds.

Stockport reserves 0 – Manchester United reserves 1 (Barclays Reserve Premier League, March 8, 2010) A brilliant solo effort from young Will Keane settled the match.

Leeds 1 – Brentford 1 (League One, March 6, 2010) The Bees snatched the lead when Ben Strevens forced the ball home at a corner. Gary McSheffrey crossed for Jermaine Beckford to level and Lubo Michalik then hit a Brentford post in injury-time.

Valencia 0 – Racing Santander 0 (La Liga, March 8, 2010) Valencia dominated large parts of the first half but did not do enough in the creativity department to get themselves in front. Racing came into the game more and more and landed some heavier blows in the second spell of play.

Vitoria Guimaraes 2 – Nacional 0 (Liga Sagres, March 8, 2010) First half goals from Roberto and Yves Desmarets handed Vitoria the points.

Eskisehirspor 2 – Galatasaray 1 (Super Lig, March 8, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) After a sneaky handball in the build-up, Koray Arslan fired the hosts into the lead in the 43rd minute, and striker Arslan bagged a fabulous second immediately after the restart as he weaved past two defenders before rifling a beauty into the top corner. A penalty from Elano proved mere consolation.

Hapoel Petah Tikva 1 – Hapoel Tel Aviv 1 (Ligat Ha’Al, March 8, 2010) Guy Tzarfati equalised in the 90th minute with a stunning howitzer of a free kick that gave Vincent Enyeama no chance. Douglas Da Silva had put Hapoel Tel Aviv in front on 77.

San Lorenzo 3 – Chacarita Juniors 1 (Argentinean Clausura, March 8, 2010) Bernardo Romeo scored two goals and Sebastian Gonzalez added another to lead San Lorenzo to a 3-1 victory over Chacarita. The visitors, however, notched the goal of the game courtesy of a tremendous overhead-kick from Facundo Parra.

Gimnasia La Plata 1 – Rosario Central 1 (Argentinean Clausura, March 8, 2010) Gervasio Nunez equalised for Rosario Central after Nahuel Valentini gave Gimnasia a 1-0 lead in the 23rd.

Arsenal Sarandi 3 – Colon 0 (Argentinean Clausura, March 8, 2010) Mauro Obolo scored two goals and Cristian Alvarez got the other in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Colon.
