Sunderland 0 – Manchester United 4 (Barclays Premier Reserve League, January 21, 2010) Sir Alex Ferguson will be smiling from ear to ear after new striker Mame Biram Diouf netted his first United hat-trick in the reserves against the Black Cats’ second string on Thursday night. Diouf gave United a 17th minute lead with a neat chip over Sunderland keeper Trevor Carson. He then doubled the Reds’ lead on the stroke of half-time after Gabriel Obertan had got in behind the home side’s defence. Diouf completed his haul after taking a pass from Olivere Norwood early in the second half before leaving the fray just before the hour mark. Substitute Sam Hewson rounded off the scoring from the penalty spot barely 10 minutes after joining the action.
