A late Miroslav Klose goal wrapped up the points for Van Gaal’s men.
Wellington Phoenix 3 – North Queensland Fury 0 (A-League, January 15, 2010) Eugene Dadi continued his dream start at the Wellington Phoenix with his third goal in two matches, heading home early in the second half. Paul Ifill fired home his ninth of the season to doubled the hosts’ lead, while a Jon McKain header in the 90th minute sealed the win to extend the Phoenix’s unbeaten run at Westpac Stadium to 16 matches.
Adelaide United 1 – Central Coast Mariners 1 (A-League, January 15, 2010) Nik Mrdjaâ€™s 39th minute penalty was cancelled out by Travis Dodd three minutes later.
Ivory Coast 3 – Ghana 1 (African Cup of Nations, January 15, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) The Elephants broke the deadlock with the Black Stars after 22 minutes, a lightning counter-attack from the Ivorians ended when Kalou fed a cross into Gervinho for the Lille striker to score four yards. Ghana fell further behind after the break when left-back Siaka Tiene cracked a stunning free-kick past Kingston to revive the Ivorians qualification hopes. A fine performance from the Elephants was capped with a textbook header from Didier Drogba in the 90th minute. In a strange finish to the match Ghana won a cheap 91st minute penalty which Asamoah Gyan slotted home.
