Barcelona 3 – Villarreal 3 (La Liga, May 10, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) A wonderful left-footed drive from Seydou Keita on the angle, which arrowed into the top corner, gave Barca the lead over Villarreal 12 minutes in. The Yellow Submarine hit back, a slick attack was finished off by Joseba Llorente after Yaya Toure was robbed of the ball in midfield. Barca retook the lead in the 36th minute when the Catalans took a quick free-kick with Samuel Eto’o scoring. And it was soon three as Dani Alves cracked home a sweet free-kick on the stroke of halftime. For the second game running Eric Abidal was sent off, allowing Matias Fernandez to score a 78th minute penalty. And in a dramatic finish Joseba Llorente scored a brilliant solo last minute equaliser to claim a surprise point.
Atletico Madrid 3 – Espanyol 2 (La Liga, May 10, 2009) (Longer highlights here.) The visitors led 2-nil at halftime thanks to a Nene penalty and a bundled effort from Daniel Jarque with the hosts further hindered by the 32nd minute dismissal of central defender Luis Perea. But a second half revival saw Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero drag Atletico level before Forlan netted again in stoppage time.
Getafe 3 – Osasuna 0 (La Liga, May 10, 2009) An Esteban Granero penalty in the 26th minute gave Getafe the lead over Osasuna at home. An appalling flap by Osasuna keeper Roberto allowed Esteban Granero’s 20-yard shot to slip though his grasp and into his net. Ikechukwu Uche scored a third to wrap up the win.
Recreativo Huelva 1 – Deportivo La Coruna 2 (La Liga, May 10, 2009) Joan Verdu chipped the visitors into an 18th minute lead, with Adrian Colunga equalising in the 44th after racing on to Javi Fuegoâ€™s pass and firing home. Pablo Alvarez scored Deportivoâ€™s winning goal from close range after receiving Filipe Luis’ pass in the 50th.
Almeria 3 – Sporting Gijon 1 (La Liga, May 10, 2009) Gonzalez Carmelo put Sporting in front in the 16th minute, but Miguel Nieto (27) Kalu Uche (55) and substitute Pablo Piatti (90) completed the turn around.
Valladolid 0 – Numancia 0 (La Liga, May 10, 2009) Numancia remain rock bottom and four points from safety after a draw at Valladolid.
