Sevilla sack coach Jimenez after last-gasp Xerez draw; Gijon down 9-man Depor at the death

Sevilla 1 – Xerez 1 (La Liga, March 23, 2010) After a goalless first half former Tottenham and West Ham striker Fredi Kanoute broke the deadlock on 63 minutes when he converted from the penalty spot. That looked like being enough for Sevilla until Leandro Gioda popped up with an equaliser in the closing seconds for Xerez. After the match, Sevilla sacked manager Manolo Jimenez after their winless run stretched to seven games.

Sporting Gijon 2 – Deportivo La Coruna 1 (La Liga, March 23, 2010) Depor were reduced to 10-men after only 11 minutes at Gijon when visiting keeper Daniel Aranzubia was sent off for a professional foul just outside his box. Gijon made their extra man count on the half hour when a period of pressure on the Depor goal ended with Mate Bilic slotting in the opener. Depor levelled midway through the second half when Adrian timed his run to perfection to beat the offside trap and the forward finished with aplomb. But the match ended with a twist as Depor had Lopo sent off in injury time when he gave away a penalty and Diego Castro slotted home the winner from the spot.
