Real Madrid 3 – Osasuna 2 (La Liga, May 2, 2010) (Longer highlights here.) A horrendous error in the Real Madrid backline from Raul Albiol allowed Osasuna forward Carlos Aranda the opportunity to charge at the home goal and the visitors grabbed an unlikely seventh minute opener in the Bernabeu. Cristiano Ronaldo drew Real level in the 24th minute as the forward waltzed into the area and drilled a low shot into the near post. Incredibly Osasuna retook the lead minutes before the break when Krisztian Vadocz latched onto Aranda’s pass in the box and lashed in the visitors’ second. But Madrid hit back inside 60 seconds when Marcelo headed in the equaliser to end the half 2-all. With Madrid struggling the get their noses in front after the break Marcelo had a goal chalked offside for offside on the hour. But just as it looked like Real would be surrendering the title to Barca, in the 88th minute Higuain dug out a cross to the back post and Cristiano Ronaldo took responsibility to head in the crucial goal to Madrid in the title race.
Sevilla 3 – Atletico Madrid 1 (La Liga, May 2, 2010) Fresh from their heroics at Anfield, some criminally poor defending saw Atletico Madrid go behind after just five minutes at Sevilla with Luis Fabiano tapping home a corner at the back post. Three minutes later Tiago brought Atletico level from a free-kick but their joy was short lived as Alvaro Negredo converted a penalty a further five minutes later. Five minutes before the break another penalty from Alvaro Negredo put Sevilla in control.
Athletic Bilbao 1 – Mallorca 3 (La Liga, May 2, 2010) Gonzalo Castro gave Mallorca the lead in what looked a crucial psychological blow two minutes before halftime, but Fernando Llorente hit back before the break to leave the two teams level at the interval. Mallorca came out strongly, though, and retook the lead almost immediately through Nunes, and Aritz Aduriz added a third almost immediately against his former club to secure a vital three points for the islanders.
