Real Madrid 2 – Valladolid 0 (La Liga, April 12, 2009) Gonzalo Higuain beat two Valladolid defenders on the right hand touchline before crossing to Raul who steered Los Blancos into a halftime lead. Arjen Robben sealed the win with a breakaway second late on.
Mallorca 2 – Almeria 0 (La Liga, April 12, 2009) Cleber Santana’s spectacular overhead kick just short of the hour mark gave the home side the lead and Gonzalo Castro settled it with a second in added time after Almeria had been reduced to 10 men by the sending off of Hernan Pellerano.
Osasuna 2 – Athletic Bilbao 1 (La Liga, April 12, 2009) Masoud Shojaei gave Osasuna the lead after 20 minutes, but Athletic hit back shortly afterwards through Aitor Ocio. Ocio was sent off after 50 minutes and Osasuna’s constant pressure finally paid off 10 minutes from time when Sergio Fernandez slotted home the winner.
Sporting Gijon 2 – Valencia 3 (La Liga, April 12, 2009) David Silva put Los Che in front but Sporting Gijon responded as Torres David Barral dispatched from the penalty spot. David Villa put Valencia back in front, slotting home his spot-kick, but again the home side responded as substitute Mate Bilic slotted home. With just two minutes remaining Mata netted a dramatic winner to hand Valencia the spoils.
Deportivo La Coruna 1 – Atletico Madrid 2 (La Liga, April 12, 2009) Sergio Aguero and Simao Sabrosa scored either side of halftime for Atletico, Rodolfo Bodipo made the visitors sweat when he pulled one back three minutes from time.
Numancia 0 – Espanyol 0 (La Liga, April 12, 2009) The bottom two clubs in the league, Numancia and Espanyol, played out a goalless draw that may well condemn both to the drop.
