Negredo’s double lifts Sevilla over Valencia; Villarreal sack Valverde after Osasuna defeat; Malaga win at sorry Atletico; Lowly Xerez & Zaragoza both win

Sevilla 2 – Valencia 1 (La Liga, January 31, 2010) Alvaro Negredo tapped in the opener in the 21st minute. Negredo doubled the lead on 69 with a terrific chip over Cesar. Navarro pulled one back late on.

Atletico Madrid 0 – Malaga 2 (La Liga, January 31, 2010) Malaga got off to the perfect start when Duda knocked the ball in at the far post inside the fourth minute. Javi Lopez then found Malaga’s second goal with a brilliant finish, Baha whipped in a ball from the right hand side, which beat every player in the box. Lopez took a gamble on it, ran in at the far post and slotted in with authority.

Villarreal 0 – Osasuna 2 (La Liga, January 31, 2010) Juanfran did the damage for the visitors, netting in both halves to stun the home fans and ensure Villarreal’s inconsistent form continues.

Xerez 2 – Mallorca 1 (La Liga, January 31, 2010) It seemed to be business as usual for the Barralets as Pierre Webo took the visitors in to the break with a 1-0 win following a brilliant header off Chori Castro’s cross. But seven minutes after the restart the Andalucians were level as Carlos Calvo buried a wonderful looping shot from the edge of the area. Just before the breakCalvo made it a day to remember with his second and thus gave the Xerecistas a fighting chance of staying up.

Valladolid 1 – Almeria 1 (La Liga, January 31, 2010) Albert Crusat linked up brilliantly with Henok Goitom to score a deserved first after twelve minutes, before Manucho was given a straight red after fouling Chico seven minutes before half time. A late, late equaliser from Cesar Arzo gace a point for ten-man Valladolid.

Tenerife 1 – Zaragoza 3 (La Liga, January 31, 2010) Tenerife took the lead three minutes after the break through Juanlu, who got on the end of Pablo Sicilia’s cross to fire past the busy Juan Pablo Carrizo. 15 minutes from time Humberto Suazo converted a penalty after Ezequiel Luna felled Javier Arizmendi in the box. Then floodgates opened, Adrian Colunga scoring a one-on-one after Gabi’s pass before Angel Lafita wrapped it up with a brilliant strike from 20 yards.
