La Liga: Sevilla beat Gijon to go third; Mallorca moves up Spanish league with first ever win at Osasuna; Deportivo draws

Atletico Madrid 1 – Villarreal 2 (La Liga, December 13, 2009) Simao shot Atletico into a first half lead but David Fuster equalised early in the second period. Both sides had chances before Joseba Llorente bundled in a 90th minute header to stun the home fans at the Vicente Calderon.

Osasuna 0 – Mallorca 1 (La Liga, December 13, 2009) The only goal in chilly Pamplona came in the 61st minute, when the in-form Gonzalo Castro scored with a left-foot drive after being set up on the break by Pierre Webo.

Almeria 1 – Deportivo La Coruna 1 (La Liga, December 13, 2009) Kalu Uche gave Almeria the lead on the hour, Pablo Alvarez levelled for Deportivo 15 minutes from time.

Getafe 2 – Tenerife 1 (La Liga, December 13, 2009) First blood was drawn by Juan Angel Albin eight minutes before the break as he met a Pedro Leon corner to net with a header. Getafe added a second 25 minutes from time as Albin again netted with a low shot past Aragoneses. The hosts were compelled to endure a nervy finish as stand-in goalkeeper Jordi Codina spilled a routine ball for Jordi to score a late strike for Tenerife, but it ended 2-1.

Racing Santander 3 – Xerez 2 (La Liga, December 13, 2009) Everything was going right for the Andalucians as they took the lead after two minutes, Momo meeting a cross for Mario Bermejo to tap home unopposed. Mehdi Lacen equalised in the 25th minute with a superb drive from the edge of the area, and Manuel Arana made it 2-1 just after the break with a similar effort. Antonito equalised with twenty minutes left with a rasping shot of his own, but Alex Geijo settled matters just before the closing stages with a neat header following Pedro Munitis’ pinpoint cross.

Valladolid 1 – Malaga 1 (La Liga, December 13, 2009) Duda opened the scoring for the Boquerones firmly against the run of play as the Pucela’s defence lay sleeping. Jesus Gamez put through his own net in the 68th minute to draw Valladolid level.

Sporting Gijon 0 – Sevilla 1 (La Liga, December 13, 2009) Freddie Kanoute poked Jesus Navas’ cross into the roof of the net after nine minutes in a match where hail affected play, while at least a dozen people were reportedly injured in fights between the clubs’ Ultra fans before the match.
